Urgent Care or the Emergency Room?
Both treat unexpected illness and injury, but they are built for different levels of severity. Choosing correctly saves you time, and in an emergency it can save far more than that.
The simple rule: urgent care is for problems that need attention today but are not life-threatening. The emergency room is for anything that could threaten life, limb, or eyesight.
When urgent care is the right choice
Come to PrimeUC for conditions like:
- Colds, flu, sore throat, sinus and ear infections
- Fever without emergency warning signs
- Urinary tract infections
- Minor cuts that may need stitches
- Sprains, strains, and suspected simple fractures
- Minor burns, rashes, and pink eye
- Vomiting or diarrhea without signs of severe dehydration
- Work-related injuries and workers’ compensation visits
- Physicals, including school, sports, employment, and immigration physicals
We have on-site X-ray and diagnostic testing, so fractures and chest or abdominal complaints can often be assessed in a single visit rather than sending you elsewhere for imaging.
When to go to the emergency room — or call 911
Go straight to an emergency room, or call 911, for:
- Chest pain or pressure
- Signs of stroke — sudden face drooping, arm weakness, or difficulty speaking
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Severe or uncontrolled bleeding
- Head injury involving loss of consciousness, confusion, or repeated vomiting
- A sudden, severe headache unlike any you’ve had before
- Seizures
- Severe abdominal pain
- An open fracture, visible bone, or a badly deformed limb
- Severe allergic reactions
- Suspected poisoning or overdose
- Thoughts of harming yourself or someone else
- Fever in an infant under three months old
If you are unsure, treat it as an emergency. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. Do not drive yourself if you are having chest pain or stroke symptoms.
